Job Description Summary

This position will primarily support the North County Campus in Paso Robles with occasional work on the San Luis Obispo campus.

DEFINITION

Under the direction of the Director, plan, organize and manages operations of the Children's Center at the North County Campus.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Children's Center Supervisor is distinguished by the requirement to serve as the site supervisor for the North County campus, maintain staff-child ratios and staffing to meet state licensing requirements, assists with the enrollment process for children and families, supervises staff, children, and students enrolled at the assigned site.

Incumbents in this position support student learning outcomes and institutional effectiveness by maintaining a quality lab program for the Child Development and Family Studies department, by assisting in the oversite and support of quality program services for children and families, and by ensuring compliance with State licensing requirements.

Essential Functions & Qualifications

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Provide day-to-day leadership and oversite of the assigned Children's Center site;

• Plan, organize, manage, integrate and evaluate the work of staff;

• Participate in developing program philosophy, goals and objectives in collaboration with faculty and staff;

• Monitor compliance and coordinate implementation of all licensing regulations (Title XXII) pertaining to daily operational needs of the Center;

• Recommend and assist with budget management;

• Assist with record keeping and reporting;

• Assist in the written assessment and evaluation of children's growth and development;

• Facilitate positive interpersonal relations with parents by participating in parent conferences as needed or requested, daily parent communication, and parent meetings;

• Follow procedures for child abuse reporting as required by law;

• Assist with the recruitment of staff, process monthly time cards and leaves;

• Maintain health and safety standards including nutritional programs, universal health precautions, emergency procedures, and facility and equipment safety for children, parents, staff and students;

• Advise and assist site staff in the resolution of work-related problems;

• Assist laboratory students in their assignments;

• Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students;

• Maintain files for children attending the Center and for licensing purposes;

• Collaborate with Director on children's center policies;

• Enroll children, conduct parent tours and orientations, and maintain waitlists; and

• Perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience Required:

A minimum of two years' experience working in an early childhood or children's program learning environment serving children under five years of age.

Experience Preferred:

One year of Site Supervisor status experience.

Education Required:

(2 options) - Individuals must satisfy all the requirements listed in one of the following options:

(1) An Associate's degree from an accredited institution with twenty-four (24) semester units of Early Childhood Education/Child Development including the following core courses of child/human growth and development; child, family, and community or child and family relations; and programs/curriculum; AND completion of six (6) additional semester units of course work in the administration and supervision of childcare and development programs; AND completion of two (2) semester units of adult supervision course work; AND an additional two (2) years' experience.

OR

(2) A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with twenty-four (24) semester units of Early Childhood Education/Child Development including the following core courses of child/human growth and development; child, family, and community or child and family relations; and programs/curriculum; AND completion of six (6) additional semester units of course work in the administration and supervision of childcare and development programs; AND completion of two (2) semester units of adult supervision course work.

Knowledge of:

• Child development, health, and nutritional guidelines and theories of child guidance;

• Family relationships;

• How to communicate effectively with preschool age children and their parents;

• Methods of record keeping and reporting;

• Health and safety regulations;

• Both program specific and District operational policies and procedures;

• Current technologies, personal computer, and associated office software such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and/or database software;

• Correct English usage: grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation;

Ability to:

• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties; and

• Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. "Meaningful consideration" means that candidates shall be required to demonstrate sensitivity to diversity in ways relevant to the specific position.

Physical ability to:

• See for the purpose of reading regulations, laws and codes, rules and policies, and other printed matter;

• Hear and understand speech at normal levels;

• Speak so that others will be able to understand a normal in-person and telephone conversation;

• Sit or stand for extended periods of time both indoors and outdoors;

• Lift and/or carry 50 pounds;

• Bend and twist, push and pull, stoop, kneel;

• Reach in all directions;

• Sit on floor and/or at small tables and chairs; and

• Exert manual dexterity sufficient for keyboard and other office equipment operation.

License and Certificates (current or eligible for):

Required

• Eligible for the California Child Development Site Supervisor Permit;

• Current First Aid and CPR certifications;

• Up to date immunization records including MMR and DTP;

• Valid driver's license and eligible to obtain California driver's license upon hire.

SALARY SCHEDULE

Below is the full salary schedule range for this position, steps A through E. Per Cuesta College's bargaining agreement, new employees are placed at Steps A through C, which is the anticipated hiring range also listed below. • Salary Schedule Range: $6,473 - $7,868 per month.

• Anticipated Hiring Range: $6,473 - $7,136 per month.
