PayPalis one of the most trusted ways to send and receive money online. This article explains how to use it as a payment method while shopping at brick-and-mortar establishments.
Choose Your Preferred Way to Pay in Stores
You can pay in person with PayPal by scanning a QR code. Just point your phone's camera at the code to get started.
However, before PayPal works in stores, you have to set up a payment method. If you have a balance in your account, it will be used first. If you spend more than you have in PayPal, your preferred payment method will be used.
You have the option of using a PayPal credit card, a linked credit card, a debit card, or a bank account or linking a new payment account from which to draw funds.
Here's how to set up in-store payments:
Open the Payments area of your PayPal account. If you're not logged in, you'll be asked to now.
If you're in the app, tap the three-lined menu at the top and select In person & QR code.
Scroll down to the In-store purchases section. If you don't yet have an in-store payment method set up, choose Select; otherwise, select the method that's already there.
To do this from the app, go to Payment preference, then tap the link below Payment method.
Select one of your payment methods.
Don't want to spend your PayPal balance in stores? Toggle that option off from this screen.
Select Confirm on the website, or Done in the app.
Pay With PayPal in Stores Using Google Pay
Google Pay is like a digital wallet you can keep on your phone and use to pay for products and services in stores, restaurants, and other physical locations.
When you link PayPal to Google Pay, you can check out with PayPal through Google Pay, where you see the Google Pay or PayPal logos. To do this, unlock your phone and hold the back of your phone to the payment screen for a few seconds. You don't need to open the Google Pay or PayPal app. Enter your PIN if prompted.
Here's how to get PayPal to work with Google Pay:
Open the Google Pay app. It's available on Android and iOS.
Select the Insights tab at the bottom.
Select Manage accounts > Link account.
Press Accept, and then Continue when Plaid opens.
Enter your phone number and confirm it with the security code to log in to Plaid. Alternatively, tap Maybe later.
Select PayPal from the list. You can search for it if you don't see it.

Another option is to apply for a PayPal Cashback Mastercard. This debit card is accepted in stores, restaurants, and anywhere else Mastercard is accepted. It's not a credit card. When you pay using the card, it will access your PayPal balance and use the funds to pay the bill.
