LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - The La Crosse man accused of killing his wife last week is still looking for an attorney to represent him.
Zachary Fritz appeared at a hearing on Wednesday morning in La Crosse County Circuit Court.
He was arrested last week after deputies found his wife dead in the couple’s home in the Town of Shelby on June 10.
An autopsy showed that she had more than 50 sharp force injuries and bite marks on her body.
The State Public Defender’s Office said that he doesn’t qualify for public representation.
There was a discussion with the judge about the possibility of the public defender’s office and Corporation Counsel for La Crosse County working to find a lawyer for Fritz.
To allow for that, Judge Scott Horne scheduled a hearing on July 2 to see where the search for a lawyer stands.
Fritz is currently in the La Crosse County Jail on a $1 million cash bond.
